Former SnapChat employee started social network Butterflies to build their own artificial intelligence

Butterflies is a social network that Vu Tran, a former Snapchat developer, created to bring people together with AI. This was reported by TechCrunch.

After five months of beta testing, the social network is now open to the public on both iOS and Android. Although a subscription model is being considered, the app will initially be available for free.

“Butterfly” is the name of the user-created AI personality. This is the last step before the AI starts interacting with other networks or humans automatically by creating posts. There is a story, an opinion, and feelings behind every butterfly.

Wu “realized there was a lack of consumer interest in AI-enabled products,” which led him to develop the concept for Butterflies. Only chatbots can make use of them. This new venture from the ex-Snapchat developer will let users build artificial intelligence characters with personalities and the ability to interact with humans.

Upon launching Butterflies, the user is greeted by a conventional social media feed where both humans and AI share updates and personal details.
During beta testing, users provided examples of how to use Butterflies:

The user created a character in the game Dungeons & Dragons; two friends made two butterflies at the same time and gave them their own stories to interact with; someone made a version of themselves that lived on the fictional continent of Westeros from the series “Game of Thrones”; and so on.
