As the Stanley Cup Final enters Game 7, Innisfail will be rooting for Edmonton.

Vincenza – Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final is tonight, and most Innisfail residents will be glued to their screens as the Edmonton Oilers try to make Stanley Cup history.

With their incredible comeback against the Florida Panthers, the Oilers are vying for hockey’s Holy Grail. The last time a team pulled off such a feat in a Stanley Cup Final series was in 1942, when the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings.

Fox & Hound owner Rob Gett says, “I’m the biggest Edmonton Oilers fan in the province,” expressing his hope for a large audience to watch the game. With any luck, they come out on top. Here we have a game. The hot goalie, anything can happen.

Something really amazing is happening right now. You probably won’t see anything like this again in the next twenty to thirty years, if ever.

Even though Guette thinks he’s the province’s biggest Oilers fan, he’s got some competition from Mayor Jean Barclay, who lived in Edmonton for almost 25 years.

“Every second” of Game 7 would be watched by Barclay, according to the Albertan.

Regardless of the outcome, Barclay, a former amateur hockey player, believes that one must admire the team’s performance this year.

To play this game today is absolutely incredible in light of everything they’ve been through all year.

“Being in Edmonton during Gretzky’s prime and enjoying that period for the Oilers was an incredible experience, and it’s thrilling for the next generation of fans to watch.”

According to Barclay, the actions of the resolute Oilers are having an effect across Canada.

“The perseverance and resilience is absolutely remarkable,” Barclay remarked. I still get chills thinking about 18,000 people singing “O Canada” at Rogers Place—that’s the kind of thing that unites the country.

Team sports teach us a lot about helping each other out, putting our pride aside, and focusing on the end goal. In my opinion, this squad will see it through to the end.

Connor McDavid will never, ever try to deflect the spotlight from his teammates. In the end, it’s all about the squad.
