As the 2024 European Championship group stage came to a close, the French and Polish national teams couldn’t resolve their differences.

The goals were scored by Mbappe (56), Lewandowski (79), and a penalty.
The “tricolors” failed to convert multiple opportunities in the initial half. Following Kante’s break, Dembele took a shot from a tight angle that was saved by the goalkeeper. Two times in response to Barcol’s well-timed passes, Mbappe—who was making his return to action following a broken nose—was unable to beat Skorupski.
Early in the second half, the Polish goalkeeper saved a shot from the striker that went wide of the far post. Unfortunately for Skorpuska, the situation became dire when Kivior brought down Dembele inside his own penalty area. With assurance, Mbappe scored his first goal of the tournament by converting the penalty kick.
“Kadra” was able to reclaim victory, though. Upamecano fouled Swiderski during one of the Polish team’s attacks, resulting in a penalty. Lewandowski missed the mark from the penalty spot, but the watchful referee gave the go-ahead for the kick because Maignan left the goal too soon. The striker scored on his second try.
Didier Deschamps’ squad had one legitimate scoring opportunity before the final buzzer. While Kounde and Mbappe combined to set up Giroud, the Frenchman was unable to beat the Polish defense’s “block” and the score remained tied at one goal apiece. The French squad finished second in their group and advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to the draw. In the quartet, Poland came in last.
As an aside, in the 2024 European Championship, the Austrian national team prevailed over the Netherlands in a penalty shootout.
