Selfies in the form of NFT brought a student $3.5 million

In 2022, an ordinary student from Indonesia earned over $1 million from his selfies in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In 2024, he returned once again.

Sultan Gustav Al-Ghozali created a memecoin, which became a hybrid of a “meme” coin and an NFT based on the second-layer (L2) Base solution. For the presale of the new token Ghozali (GHZLI), the now former student received over $2.5 million.

How the “dumbest idea” brought the first million For six years, Sultan Gustav Al-Ghozali took a selfie every day, which in 2022 he decided to turn into NFTs. Thus, the collection called Ghozali Everyday was born. Ghozali’s idea quickly found resonance among members of the crypto community, who began buying tokens of the Indonesian student. The support of enthusiasts brought the author of the unusual NFT collection a million dollars.

In August 2023, Ghozali wrote on X (formerly “Twitter”) that he would no longer take photos. Then he took his last selfie at his university graduation and said:

“Taking selfies for six years is the dumbest idea that ever came to my mind. But at least I was able to make money from it.”

The break didn’t last long. In March 2024, Ghozali returned to X. This time to promote his own memecoin, which he called the “second part” of the Ghozali Everyday NFT collection. According to Etherscan, since the launch, there have been over 7,000 Ethereum (ETH) stored at the address for the presale of the new token. At the current rate, such a quantity of coins is valued at over $2.5 million. However, Ghozali set the presale limit at 400 ETH, or $1.4 million. Now, the author of the legendary NFT collection is returning funds to those users who bought the new asset after reaching this threshold.
